Abstract | A new object added to the MAX language facilitates neural computations. It makes MAX an ideal environment for rapid experiments in the application of adaptive techniques to musical problems. Networks in MAX were programmed to recognize gestures from a MIDI keyboard, a Zeta MIDI guitar, a radio drum, and Lightning. In one experiment, a network issued messages to synchronize MIDI guitar motives with images from a HyperMedia work. Configurations and musical applications of the networks are also discussed.
