The term "techno" is often used for any electronic club or dance music. True hardcore techno eschews the pop-oriented vocals or acoustic-like samples found in other heavily-electronic genres such as hip-hop or house in favor of a more truly technological sound: rhythmic loops with precise timing and exact repetition and timbres that could only be produced from electronic synthesizers. The varieties and offshoots of techno differ in the tempo and complexity of their beats as well as what, if anything, accompanies them.
