"House" is the successor to disco as the dominant music for mainstream dance clubs. Indeed, clubs that still refer to themselves as "discos" (particularly outside the United States) are more likely than not to play house music. Like many genres that grew during the 1980's, house music is heavily an overtly electronic, but with vocal and acoustic elements from other genres such as pop, rap, jazz and Latin music. Since the late 80's, many mainstream artists have been recording house-inspired dance music.
