Acid House is an offshoot of the popular "House" dance style that emerged from American clubs primarily in Chicago and New York and then migrated to Europe. The name derives from Phuture's single "Acid Trax." The characteristic "Acid" sound derives from the use of analog synthesizers, such as the classic Roland TB-303 bass synthesizer. The warm, squelchy, analog sounds also inspired techno artists to create "Acid Techno." Musical instrument companies have responded to the interest in analog sounds among professional and amateur musicians by reissuing updated versions of the old instruments or creating new digital versions. The acid influence has spilled over into other dance styles, such as Trance.
