This Leicester, England-based six-piece is certainly more attractive than their medical moniker suggests. Fronted by Scottish vocalist Mick Derrick and vocalist Linda Steelyard, Prolapse has received accolades from some of indie-rock's best and brightest, including Pavement and Sonic Youth, who declared them one of their favorites after a performance at 1995's Reading Festival. Perhaps, it's the aggressive assaults of guitarists Dave Jeffreys and Pat Marsden, drummer Tim Pattison and bassist Mick Harrison that impressed the indie-rock patriots, however the sibling-styled squabbles of Derrick and Steelyard undoubtedly play a part. While their live shows feature flying televisions and toasters (stage props that double as artillery), they also showcase Derrick and Steelyard's bickering vocalization, an element that makes their concerts unforgettable. Armed with a burly Scottish accent and a soft-spoken growl respectively, Derrick and Steelyard can effortlessly turn a concert into a boxing match (fist to fist, at times) that helps drive this sextet's ferocity home.
Signed with Big Cat Records, Prolapse released Pointless Walks to Dismal Places in 1995 and Backsaturday in 1996.
